Founded in 1994, the Middleton Kiwanis Club is a community service organization made-up of women and men who live or work in Middleton. Since its inception nearly eleven years ago, the Middleton Kiwanis Club has raised more than $200,000. The Club has donated tens of thousands of dollars to many Middleton groups and organizations, benefiting children, seniors, the underprivileged, and the community as a whole. Some of the beneficiaries of the Club's efforts include:
• Norm Nathan Memorial Bandstand – This year marks the third summer of the Middleton Kiwanis Club Summer Concert Series at the Norm Nathan Bandstand, which was dedicated by the Club in memory of Norm Nathan, a WBZ Radio talk show host, longtime Middleton resident, and dedicated Middleton Kiwanian. The Norm Nathan Bandstand is located behind Memorial Hall off of 114. In 2005, the series continues with support from the Middleton Kiwanis Club:
• Middleton Fire Department - The Club purchased a pediatric trauma kit for one of the town's ambulances and sponsored a pediatric trauma training program, wherein more than twenty Town of Middleton fire fighters and police officers were given free tuition.
• Middleton Police Department – Two years ago, the Club donated an automatic defibrillator to the Middleton Police Department for use in police vehicles. This added level of safety helps ensure that first responders are properly equipped for medical emergencies.
In conjunction with both the Middleton Police & Fire Departments, the Club sponsored several Bicycle Safety Days, wherein Middleton families received bicycle safety training, bicycle equipment checks, and free safety helmets.
• Chief Will’s Day - On June 24, 2006 the fourth annual Chief Will’s Day takes place at Emily Maher Park . The Middleton Kiwanis Club has been there from the beginning, donating $26,500 in cash and many hours of volunteer labor.
• Flint Library – Over the past few years, the Club has donated computer equipment and many children's books on tape to assist visually impaired children and stimulate young readers. If the proposed library expansion receives all approvals, the Middleton Kiwanis Club stands ready with a $50,000 donation.
• Middleton PTO - The Club sponsored or underwrote: Project KidCare, reflective Halloween safety bags, the Book Buddy program, and the Easter Breakfast (featuring our own Kiwanis Easter Bunny).
• Other on-going projects include the annual Middleton Council on Aging Cookout and the Middleton Pumpkin Festival.
